Isaan contingent shine in Thailand

Isaan Gym boxers returned from Thailand with SIX medals and an A class tournament champion.

The Oldham contingent flew out to Bangkok to take part in the 19th WMF championships.

The list of success reads:

✅ Tommy Sheridan from Failsworth, aged 10 yrs, gold
✅ Leo Deakin from Royton, aged 11 yrs, gold
✅ Danny Ferris from Fitton Hill, aged 16 yrs, silver
✅ Ethan Flight from Derker, aged 19 yrs, silver
✅ Luke Mattinson from Moorside, aged 18 yrs, silver pro-am
✅ Tommy Lowe from Waterhead, aged 17 yrs, WMF tournament champion

It was a tough 10 days with all adult boxers having to make weight every morning before they fought.

That’s always a tough ask, but everyone from Oldham was thoroughly professional.

Isaan head coach Stephen Donnelly said: "I’m very proud to say that team England were the team of the tournament with the most medals overall, which is a massive achievement considering some of the other countries in the mix like France, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, to name a few.

"This was a life-changing experience for the boxers who represented Team England.

"We trained at some really good gyms and met some superstars and visited the big stadiums in Bangkok.

"It’s important to remember that all these kids are home-grown talent that represent Oldham and I’m very, very proud of them all.

"Also, a big well done to Pete Spensley for organising a fantastic trip for Team England."
