A FUNERAL directors has been nominated for a Pride In Oldham award for outstanding compassion in times of need.

For 145 years, G Barlow and Sons have dealt with personal loss in a professional manner in Oldham, creating a glowing reputation and a high standard of care that clients appreciate.

The family-run business has been providing care for both the deceased and their families since 1868.

It is now run by David Barlow, who has been involved in the company full-time since 1967, and his daughter Sarah.

As well as the family members, Dave Schofield, Neil Hobbs and Janet Lloyd all work at the funeral directors.

David Barlow said he was shocked to receive the nomination on behalf of the company.

He said: “The way we interact with our clients comes down to experience and empathy.”

The undertakers received the nomination from Janine Walton.

Mrs Walton said: “I’ve experienced loss in the past and they’ve always been there and been very helpful, for both me and the deceased.

“I lost both my gran and my great-aunt, and the funeral directors were always kind and courteous, providing me with support.

“They’re really good at what they do.

“I really felt like they cared, everything they did was really lovely. Everyone there is just fantastic.”
