Brave Hannah so proud

HANNAH Morrow missed huge chunks of school and college after she was diagnosed with an excruciating neurological disorder.

But the former Oldham Sixth Form College student has not let that hold her back.

She chalked up two Bs and a D in her A-levels while also caring for her mother, and hopes to study European mental health nursing at Middlesex University.

Now her determination has earned her a Pride in Oldham nomination from the senior leadership team at the college.

They said: “During her time at the sixth form college Hannah was constantly caring for her mum as well as dealing with her own health issues.”

The 18-year-old, from High Crompton, fell ill with glandular fever when she was 14.

When the symptoms did not go away, an MRI scan revealed that she had chiari malformation, when part of the brain pokes through the opening at the base of the skull.

It leads to pressure on the the spinal cord and can cause headaches, swallowing difficulties, impaired co-ordination and, in some cases, paralysis.

Hannah had two operations which resulted in a lot of time off school. She now has a lumbar puncture every six months to control her symptoms.

Hannah is currently working at Primark — which she loves — and will move to either London or Colchester next year with her Army boyfriend.

She was delighted with her nomination and said: “I feel proud of what I have achieved.

“It has been a struggle but I have got there and it has proved to other people that they can also do it.”
