Finding jobs is a work in progress for club

A HOLLINWOOD work club has been nominated for Pride in Oldham award after it helped 50 people into work — including some of its own volunteers.

Hollinwood Work Club operates out of Limehurst Library every Thursday (1-3pm) and now has a membership of over 300.

Working alongside Jobcentre Plus and other community initiatives for two years, it offers help with interviews, CVs and the physical search for a job.

Organiser Sarah Furbey (40) said she was delighted to be nominated and hoped that the increased publicity would help the group take off.

Confidence

She said: “We wanted to run a group that would give people the confidence to go out and get that job and in the future we are hoping to give people the skills to go self-employed, too.

“I’m so pleased to be nominated as it means people appreciate our work.

“Hopefully this will bring us more recognition.”

The group was nominated for its excellent customer service, provided by six members of staff.

Mrs Furbey added: “It’s been going really well. We had a bit of a slow start and we found it difficult to get our name out there but slowly more and more people have been coming. We’re run mainly by volunteers, with people coming in and finding that they can help others, but unfortunately they keep leaving after finding work of their own!”
