Model pupil who just likes helping

ACCORDING to her head teacher, Rebecca Rees never rests, she is extremely committed to her work in school and spends most of her spare time completing charity work.

The Year 11 Blue Coat pupil is well known to staff and pupils due to her commitment to curricular and extra curricular work.

Nominated by head teacher Julie Hollis, Rebecca runs a chaplaincy assembly to raise awareness of the work that Christian Aid does and volunteers at the Salt Cellar (a Christian cafe and resource centre in Church Lane, Oldham) every Saturday.

The relentless 16-year-old also raises money for Christian Aid and regularly supports the Wood Street Mission — a charity to help children and families in the UK affected by poverty.

Rebecca also plays an important role in the Girl’s Brigade which she attends every week.

Mrs Hollis said: “She’s the kind of student staff rely on. Rebecca truly works hard at everything she does.

“Her commitment to her peers, the way she willingly gives her time to help anyone who asks, her dedication to her studies — all of these show pride in herself and pride in the opportunities offered by Oldham.”

Rebecca said: “It is a bit overwhelming really. I didn’t expect this and to be nominated by my head teacher is quite amazing. I would also like to say that although I do a lot of work for charity there are a lot of people that do it with me.

“I just like helping people and it is lovely to be recognised.”
