PRIDE in Oldham nominee Joan Sykes
TIRELESS dedication to the Scouthead and Austerlands Community Group is just the tip of why Joan Sykes is being nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.
Mrs Sykes, chairperson of the community group, was nominated particularly for her friendliness, patience and dedication since helping to form the group more than two years ago.
Scouthead resident Geoffrey Fielding nominated Mrs Sykes for her tireless efforts for organisations connected to the community.
He said: “What she has achieved over the last two years has been fantastic. The things she does in her personal time for organisations connected to the community, such as organising talks on subjects like Alzheimer’s and strokes, might have saved lives.”
Lesley Knotts, from Austerlands, who also nominated Mrs Sykes, said: “She volunteers and does a fantastic job, without her the group wouldn’t have got off the ground. She makes endless calls chasing up issues that need pursuing and won’t give up, all for the good of the community.”
Mrs Sykes said: “I’m overwhelmed, I just try to do my best. I’m thrilled to be nominated, it’s a great privilege to represent and just be part of a great community.”
