Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been interviewed for the manager's job at Oldham Athletic, BBC Radio Manchester reports.
Born in Salford and raised in Langley, Scholes has been an Oldham fan since boyhood.
The club refused to comment on whether Scholes has been in talks about the job.
Clarence Seedorf was in the running to become the new manager of Oldham but it is understood that is no longer the case.
Latics have won all three matches under interim boss Richie Wellens since John Sheridan left and Wellens has said he would like to be given the manager's job on a full-time basis.
Players and staff at Oldham Athletic have not been paid for the month of September.
