Latics draft in Walker on loan from Blackburn

Date published: 02 January 2024

Latics have snapped up Ethan Walker on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

The 21-year-old links up with Latics until the end of the season.

Operating as a winger, but also as a centre-forward, Walker came through Preston North End’s youth academy, making his league debut against Aston Villa at the age of 16 in 2018.

He’s previously had EFL experience with Carlisle United in 2020, and Morecambe earlier this season.

Playing up front for Blackburn Rovers’ Under-21s, he’s netted seven goals in 19 outings in Premier League 2, including a brace against Tottenham.

Speaking on the addition of the winger, Latics boss Micky Mellon was delighted to secure his man.

“We believe that we need help for the group in wide areas and Ethan will provide that to help keep us moving forward," said Mellon.

“He’s been at Morecambe since the start of the season which has been another good experience for him, he’s well regarded at Blackburn and he’ll bring something extra in the wide areas.

“Again it’s an area we’ve wanted to add to and he has the sort of profile that we want to bring to the club.”

Walker will wear squad number 28, and is available for selection ahead of Latics' National League trip to Dorking this weekend.
