Gill recalled by Tigers

On-loan centre Kieran Gill, whose month at Oldham expired at the weekend, has been recalled by injury-hit Castleford Tigers.

Winger Lee Kershaw (18), who has also had a month on loan with Roughyeds, is heading back to Wakefield Trinity.

Roughyeds, however, will keep hold of their third loanee, full-back Luke Hooley (19), albeit on a week-to-week agreement with Wakefield.

In his third spell at Oldham in three seasons, 22-year-old Gill helped Scott Naylor's men to win three Betfred League 1 games in a row - against Keighley Cougars (32-18), Workington Town (32-10) and Newcastle Thunder (28-12) -  but he didn't play in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie against Hull KR as an injury precaution.

Kershaw played left-wing in all four games, scoring two tries on debut against Keighley and another at Workington.

Hooley, in his second spell with Roughyeds, also played in the four games, scoring a brilliant solo try at Workington to give Oldham a 20-6 lead just after half-time.

Said Oldham boss Naylor: "To be keeping Luke with us is brilliant news.

"He's a class player, as he shows by playing as well as he does at this level when he's only 19.

"He's one for the future for Wakefield.

"As for now, it's good for all concerned that he's out on loan with us because he's playing every week, which has got to be good for both him and Wakefield, and we get a quality player.

"All parties also benefited from the loan deals involving Lee (Kershaw) and Kieran (Gill).

"Lee got to play four games at a higher level than he is used to.

"He played great for us while also showing Wakefield what he could do when stepping up from under-19s to senior rugby.

"He's at a stage where he needs a little bit of coaching, but I'd be surprised if we didn't see him playing for Oldham again.

"As for Gilly, he's always been brilliant for us over each of his three spells with the club.

"All parties got what they wanted out of his loan.

"We got a quality player for three games and Gilly got a lot of match fitness after his long injury lay-off.

"We wish him all the best and we hope he gets in the Castleford team before very long.

"It's what he wants and it's what we all want for him."

In other news, Adam Neal again sees a specialist later today about his concussion and Ben Davies, who hasn't played this season because of a back complaint, is expected back soon.
