Red hot Langtree closing in on Goulden record

Date published: 25 July 2018

Scott Naylor reported after last night's training session that Oldham RL came relatively unscathed through Sunday's 50-6 win against North Wales Crusaders.

Four-try Danny Langtree took a knock in the closing stages, but he is expected to be ready and raring to go again by weekend.

Third in Betfred League 1, Roughyeds go to sixth-placed Doncaster (3pm, Sunday), who are only two points behind them, although Naylor's men have a vastly-superior for-and-against record.

With the two Cumbrian clubs on the same number of points and breathing down their neck, however, Oldham must win at Doncaster to be sure of keeping hold of third place.

"The good news is that everyone should be available apart from Adam Neal (concussion), Adam Jones (back injury) and the suspended Danny Bridge," said Naylor.

That would mean Kyran Johnson and two hookers, Matty Wilkinson and Kenny Hughes, putting up their hands after injury, Hughes having been out with an ankle problem for several weeks.

Roughyeds beat Doncaster 32-12 at the Vestacare Stadium on June 3, but after last week's 30-14 win at Hunslet, Richard Horne's Donny will be full of confidence that they can reverse the result at the Vestacare Stadium.

Having scored four tries against North Wales to take his total for the season to 14, Langtree needs only two more to smash Tommy Goulden's 15, the best for a specialist second-row forward since the birth of the 'new' Oldham RL club in 1997.

Goulden's best was set in 2008. 'Langers' came within one try of matching it in 2014 and now he is again on the verge of becoming the current club's most prolific scoring second-rower in any given season.

Meanwhile, the RFL has reported on its website that Oldham forward Danny Bridge has been fined £75 and banned for nine months by an Independent Operational Rules Tribunal.

He pleaded guilty to a grade F charge of assault on the match official in the Betfred League 1 game against Keighley Cougars at Cougar Park on Friday, July 13.

AN ORSA Quiz Night tomorrow (Thursday) starts at 8pm at the Vestacare Stadium.

Entry to the quiz costs £1 and among the prizes is a jackpot of £200.

Roughyeds wish to remind fans that their last game of the regular season at London Skolars will be played on Saturday, September 22 (3pm kick-off) and not on the Sunday.
