Chronicle Campaign — we’re backing local restaurants
Date published: 02 February 2010
FULL bookings became few bookings over Christmas as foul winter weather decimated the usually hectic festive business of local restaurants
Worse was to follow: more snow and ice around New Year dealt a stunning second blow to the local dining-out trade.
Now we are hopefully out of the worst of the winter the Chronicle is launching a “Lovin’ it Local” campaign to back the local restaurant trade.
“Lovin’ it Local” wants readers to do their very best to support the local dining establishments that have become such a special part of Oldham life.
We need to eat out at local restaurants at a time when they need us most — as some struggle for their very existence.
From tomorrow you will be able to read over two years’ worth of our restaurant reviews here.
If one restaurant — or more — sounds good to you, give them a call and book a table. And tell them it’s on the Chron’s recommendation!
We hope you have a great time, so why not send us a photograph of your party at the venue via email or the Chronicle Facebook page, to show your support for great local businesses.
And when you return home, tell others about your experience by sending us your comments on the restaurants you visit.
We’ll also be bringing you news, stories and photographs from around the restaurants — staff appointments, special menus, deals and events, as well as those who go the extra mile to attract and entertain customers.
“This has been a specially difficult time for businesses across the whole spectrum,” said David Whaley, our deputy editor and restaurant reviewer.
“With the Chronicle at the heart of the community, we want to play our part in making sure local eateries have the very best chance of getting over this difficult period.
“The Chronicle firmly believes the Oldham restaurant sector is something to be proud of. We want you to help us spread the word. We’re ‘Lovin’ it Local!’”.
Comments
It wasn't just the bad weather that kept me away from restaurants over the Christmas/New Year period, it was the extremely high prices, even taking into account the increased staff wages etc.
Have Your Say

This sounds more like an advertisement feature than a story. I wonder if you'd like to print stories when meals out weren't quite so nice? Where food was cold, waiters surly, or booked tables had been given to someone else? People need to know the horror stories as well as the nice ones, but will you print both ?
