Everyone is special here at Werneth Park, but a few learners have gone the extra mile and taken part in a number of courses giving them the opportunity to be one of the first ‘Family Learning Champions’.

Suhela Khanom began on the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ working alongside her little boy in nursery. She then progressed and completed Online Basics, Numeracy Level 1, Numeracy Champions, Family Learning Champions and First Aid. She is currently doing her Family Literacy and working her way up to do level 2 in numeracy and literacy. She describes her journey as a ‘gateway to opportunities’, and is happy and confident to carry on learning till she reaches her goal, ‘maybe a job within the lifelong centre’.

Suhela has found facilities at Werneth Park very useful, especially the crèche. She said that ‘knowing my child is in safe hands so nearby, I have been able to attend courses both for my own benefit and also to help other learners, as a voluntary language support assistant’.

She urges other learners to come forward and experience the same opportunities that she has had. ‘It is so beneficial to come here. I use to be sat at home, bored, with my child, cooking and cleaning, but I now know there are so many things to do and learn. I have discovered it and want to share this with everyone! There’s always something new you could do and enjoy’.

So, here we see through Suhela’s experience that it is a big world out there with so many choices and opportunities waiting for us. All we have to do is go out and grab them!
