Taqeer’s Targeting Troublemakers

Date published: 04 April 2011

Werneth Park is a safe learning environment, and this is in large part thanks to Community Support Officers presence in the area. Taqeer Ahmed is one such officer. He has been with Greater Manchester Police for six and a half years, four and a half of those in Werneth. As well as keeping us safe and stopping crime, he is also a role model for local youngsters. ‘It’s about empowering the Community, says Taqeer. ‘I provide support for victims and facilitate home watch meetings.’ During these meetings, Taqeer tells residents about recent crime so that they can stay safe and help prevent further incidents. He also invites guest speakers to talk about the services they offer. He works with youth clubs, deaf clubs, elderly and people with disabilities and runs PACT (Partners and Communities Together). Here at Werneth Park we are happy to see Taqeer, a friendly face if we have a problem, making it a safe meeting place in our community to come and learn.
