MORE than 500 runners will line up for the Milltown to Moors Oldham half-marathon on Sunday.

One of the toughest races over 13 miles in the country, the gruelling event is the last in this year's Milltown race series.

Starting in Oldham town centre at 9.30am, the scenic route to Saddleworth offers fabulous views of the picturesque villages as well as the moorland landscape of the Peak District National Park.

Runners then return through Grasscroft, Lydgate, Lees and Glodwick where volunteer marshals and members of the community will be out in force to cheer them on.

Challenge

Among those taking part this year is the Mummy's Star group, a team of local women who are running nine half-marathons in nine weeks to raise funds for their charity which supports pregnant women with cancer. The race marks the end of their challenge.

Many of the athletes will have completed the full Milltown to Moors series, which comprises the 7K, 10K and half-marathon. Some will have also completed the Saddleworth Triathlon.

There will be traffic management in place at the start of the event which could cause some minor delays along Yorkshire Street to Prince Street, Bottom O'th' Moor (Mumps Bridge) and Shaw Road.
