A RESOLUTE Delph teenager inspired by her mother is setting herself a challenging 108 miles charity walk.

Aimee Torr (13) will take on the five-day trek from Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales to Edale in the Peak District inJuly to raise money to Francis House Children's Hospice.

The teenager said: "My mum Nicky ran the Spine Mountain Rescue Challenge last year and I supported her, travelling alongside in the van 24 hours a day and helping with refreshments.

"That inspired me and I decided I wanted to do something myself. So I'll be walking the same distance - 108 miles - over five days, and camping overnight.

"I'm raising money for Francis House Hospice as I think the work they do is really important."

Training has included six months of short and long walks to build up to the 21-miles-a-day target for the trek. Two-day walks and camping overnight will soon be added to the training schedule.

Dad Matt, who is chairman of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, will be accompanying Aimee on her mission and says he's delighted with their progress after they completed a 21-mile walk from Wessenden to Edale.

Matt said: "We made it to Edale in just over 10 hours. Training is going well - but it's very different doing five days back to back. But we've done some walks in bad weather, so we're prepared for that, but we're hoping for some nice conditions for the challenge in July."

On the practice walks they are being supported by Chris Maylor, author of Saddleworth Discovery Walks who also completed the Spine Mountain Rescue Challenge.

Aimee is making an online diary of her walks in preparation for Challenge 108, which can be viewed on Youtube. Find out more about Aimee's challenge on Facebook.com/challenge108 or make a donation at www.justgiving.com/Challenge108.
