Tiny runners race

Children take part in a 2K run around Churchill Playing Fields. Before the race set off the runners let go of pink balloons in memory of the victims of the Manchester attack

MORE than 90 children took part in a 2K fun run in Greenfield to raise money for the victims of the Manchester Arena attack

It was organised by three parents whose children had been due to take part in the Mini Great Manchester Run in the city on Sunday.

The children did want to go into Manchester at this time so an event was instead arranged for the same day at Churchill Playing Fields - with others invited to attend. It raised more than £500 and 22 pink balloons were also released at the start in memory of those who died.

Helen Potts, a reception class teacher at Greenfield St Mary's CE School, was one of the organisers.

Her children Maisie (7) and Harry (6) were among those who had signed up for Manchester run and she said: "I am absolutely delighted and the children loved it. We did not really expect so many people because it was very last minute. We did our best to publicise it on Facebook and I sent a flyer out to local primary schools."
