Parrot in cat-flap is a pretty lucky boy

Date published: 22 December 2011

IT will be a happy Christmas Day for one bird this year.

Phoenix the missing parrot has turned up safe and well — after knocking on a cat flap at a house in Delph.

The 10-year-old bird was taken inside and looked after until he was reunited with owner Angela Dronsfield last night. Phoenix escaped from Angela’s Scouthead home on Sunday and she made an appeal in the Chronicle and placed an ad in the lost and found section.

Angela said: “It’s the best Christmas present anyone could have given me. It just goes to show advertising in the Oldham Chronicle really works!” Phoenix was found by a woman in Grange Road who had seen the story.

Angela, managing director of Mercedes parts specialist Dronsfields Ltd, added: “He was actually tapping a cat flap to get inside. When she opened the door she found Phoenix outside. Her partner picked him up and Phoenix took a few bites out of him.

“It was snowy on Sunday and -4C. But he survived against all odds. I just thought he’d gone.”
