Helen urges brass bands to make some noise for women around the world
A CHAMPION musician is urging brass bands across the country to Get Together for disadvantaged women around the world.

Sporting a pink feather boa, Helen Williams, from Delph, played her flugel horn as part of a musical group in Huddersfield.

The brass bonanza which saw musicians team up for a special street concert, was all in aid of Oxfam and its sterling work to support women across the globe.

Now Helen (46) is urging brass bands across the borough to come together for the good cause and help raise funds in the run up to International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 8.

She said: “Music brings people together in a magical way. We are appealing to every single brass band in the country to raise money for the Oxfam Get Together scheme.

“They can give a little every time they rehearse or can even organise a mini-concert if they prefer.”

Helen, who works as a brass teacher at schools in Oldham, plays the horn for Foden’s band in Sandbach, Cheshire. She became the first and only female principle cornet to win the British Open Brass Championship title in its 149-year history.

Now Helen is using her profile to support the Get Together scheme for which thousands of events are expected to be staged.
