ACT fast to get a ticket for a Swing Spring Ball, featuring David James and the Big Shot Orchestra, on March 22, at the Civic Hall, Uppermill (7pm).


Ballroom tickets are already sold out, but some are still available for upstairs seating from Dobcross Band and Social Club on 01457 873741 or The Swan, Dobcross.

Proceeds to the club boiler replacement fund and other local charities.


HELP Street Scene Greenfield revive favourite walking routes tomorrow. Work involves clearing debris, cutting back vegetation and resurfacing with stone along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath. PICK up some tasty treats from 42 local retailers on Sunday at the fourth Shop Local Festival at the Civic Hall, Uppermill, 10am-3pm, free entry. Organised by Saddleworth Women’s Institute and Saddleworth Parish Council, it will raise money for Oldham Bereavement Support Service for the second year running. More than 700 people attended last year’s festival, helping to raise more than £1,000.


MEMBERS of St Chad’s Church, Uppermill, are researching the 77 names inscribed on a memorial tablet to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
