DAVE MORRIS - with new Mini
A ROUSING tune whistled by Saddleworth’s world-champion whistler is helping to sell the latest MINI.
Champion whistler and cornet player Dave Morris, from Dobcross, recorded Post Horn Gallop as the backing track to a TV commercial for the latest BMW Mini, unveiled at the weekend.
His impressive 60-second warble has since been seen and heard around the world.
Dave revealed he recorded the tune 12 years ago.
“I couldn’t believe it when my London agent said the track had been snapped up by an advertising company because it was tailor made to promote the new MINI. But I genuinely had no idea it would become so huge in such a relatively short time.
“I’ve had people I’ve never met checking it online and complimenting me.”
The advert traces history of the Mini from its first model, linked by a trail of cars dropping on the screen in domino-style, to the streamlined latest model.
Dave made a surprise visit to see the Mini featured in the ad at Williams Rochdale showrooms.
Sales manager Paul DeClemente said: “Dave’s a star performer. He did a knockout, off the cuff rendition that made me gasp.”
Dave, who also recorded a tune for a TSB TV commercial and was one of the entertainers at the recent Manchester Theatre Awards, said: “I’ve had lots of nice comments from people who have seen the ads and I’m excited about future opportunities in the advertising world.”
David’s whistling is featured in movie “The Counsellor” starring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz.
