Yanks film star, a mighty Lancaster, just some of the thrills

Throbbing aircraft engines will stir wartime memories at a stars-and-stripes spectacular this weekend.

And organisers of the Yanks Are Back In Saddleworth are promising the biggest-ever turn out with more than 60 Second World War vehicles rolling in convoy through the villages.

That will be the lead-in to the climax of the bumper extravaganza which will see an iconic Lancaster bomber overfly Uppermill at 3.20pm on Sunday.

The convoy and military parade, which leaves Uppermill at noon on Sunday, will be headed by The Queen Mother’s personal Rolls Royce with “Yanks” film star Lisa Einhhorn on board and a cigar-smoking Winston Churchill look-alike.

The “Yanks” team set up camp in the grounds of Saddleworth School, Uppermill and, just like the movie set, living history re-enactors and vintage military vehicles owners will recreate an atmosphere of wartime Britain.

Now in its 13th year, the event which is open to all, features military and classic vehicles from 1914 to the Gulf War.

Visitors can see vehicles, militaria and vintage stalls, Mr Churchill and Monty calling in on the troops.

There will be a vintage fun fair, 1940’s tea room and cafe and a Second World War 36.7 litre V12 Rolls Royce Griffon aircraft engine display — with a warning to bring earplugs.
