Bike thefts

SEVERAL bikes have been reported stolen in the Saddleworth area in recent weeks. Greater Manchester Police has released images on its Facebook page of three bikes stolen from a garage in Grasscroft on August 18.

OLDHAM Band (Lees) entertains tomorrow at Uppermill Civic Hall (8pm). Tickets cost £5 from The British Legion, Lees, or Sally on 07891-594 983. Proceeds go to Saddleworth Parish Council chairman’s charity appeal.



OLDHAM Writing Cafe meets at Lees Library on Saturday, September 6, from 10.30am-12.30pm. The event includes a brief committee meeting and a planning meeting for the next quarter. Refreshments are available.



GROTTON and District Residents’ Association are holding a gala day on Saturday, September 13. From 11am–3pm there will be a mini steam train to ride, face-painting, bouncy castle, cake stall, tombola, refreshments and much more at Grotton Pavilion, Station Road. Free entry.



SADDLEWORTH Civic Trust hosts an illustrated presentation by Ian Moss, entitled “Heritage structures on British railways” — which includes stations, bridges and viaducts at Saddleworth Museum, Uppermill, on Thursday, September 11, at 7.30pm. All welcome but non-members will be asked for a small donation.



SADDLEWORTH Mothers’ Club has organised an evening of “Funky Fitness” armchair exercises with Carita Smith on Wednesday, September 24. It will be held at St Chad Parish Centre, Lee Street, Uppermill, from 8pm. For further details contact Margaret Hardy on 01457-873 571.
