A Saddleworth landlady has claimed a prestigious accolade in a nationwide pub guide.

Christine Taylor, who runs the Church Inn, Uppermill, has been chosen as Own Brew Pub of the Year winner from more than 5,000 pubs in the 2015 Good Pub Guide.

The pubgoers bible says the inn, in Church Road is “a community pub with a big range of own-brew beers at unbeatable bargain prices.”

The guide highlights how Christine even celebrates her children’s birthdays by producing special seasonal beers bearing their names.”

The guide also praises the pub’s choice of food and unspoilt main bar.

Christine (46), said: “I’m thrilled by the award. It’s a win for my whole family and the loyal customers who support us.”

The guide uses 2,000 correspondents and pub-goers’ recommendations, backed up by editor inspections, to determine who’s in and who’s out year on year.
