Pubs told to bog off

FIVE Saddleworth pubs will be dropped from a community loo scheme next year following the withdrawal of Oldham Council funding.

They are the Three Crowns, Austerlands, the Royal George, Greenfield, the Granby, Uppermill, the White Hart, Lydgate, the Old Bell, Delph and the Roebuck Inn, Strinesdale. Saddleworth Parish Council was forced to review the scheme due to cuts and the current coverage will end on December 31.

The scheme made up for the lack of public loos around the important Saddleworth tourism area by recruiting local pubs to fill the gap.

A new scheme will launch in the new year, covering six pubs instead of the current 11: the Saddleworth Craft Co-operative, Delph, the Ram’s Head, Denshaw, the Swan, Dobcross, the Diggle Hotel, the Little Shop and the Commercial, both in Uppermill. Each will receive an annual fee of £600.
