Date published: 20 November 2014
Conmen stole cash from a pensioner after claiming they needed to check the water pressure.
Two thieves knocked at the door of an 83-year-old man in Carr Lane, Greenfield, and asked to enter.
While one spoke to the owner - who was with his 87-year-old brother - the second went upstairs to search the rooms for cash.
When he returned hiding something under his jacket, the victim confronted him - and was pushed to the floor as both men ran off.
One of the offenders is described as white, in his late 30s-early 40s, stocky, around 5ft 10in and has short grey hair and is clean shaven. He wore a dark jacket.
Detective Sergeant Tim Taylor said: “I’d ask anyone who may have seen these two men to contact us - and warrn householders to ask for identification before letting anyone into their home”.
