AN Uppermill primary is top of the class in Oldham’s primary school performance tables.

The tables use several methods to measure the achievements of year six pupils before they start secondary school.

Every 11-year-old at St Chad’s made the expected progress (at least two levels) in maths, reading and writing.

All pupils also reached the requires standard for their age (level four) in their maths, reading and spelling punctuation and grammar (SPG) SATs tests, as well as in teacher assessments in English, maths, science and reading.

Head teacher Peter Burnley, said: “Obviously some of this is down to the individual cohort of children, which will have an impact on results, but the staff and I are delighted at how the children have done.

“We have a broad curriculum, we do not coach for SATs. It is part of what we do with the children. It is not the be-all and end-all.”

St Joseph’s, Shaw, and St Martin’s, Fitton Hill, narrowly missed out on perfect record, achieving 100 per cent in nine out of the ten measurers

St Martin’s also has the highest value added score, which measurers pupils’ progress.
