We won’t give up

A CAMPAIGNING councillor today warned the plan to build a new £17million school in Diggle will be “neither speedy or straightforward.”

Mike Buckley of the Save Diggle Action Group (SDAG) was speaking after a two-hour meeting with the Education Funding Agency following the decision to pick the pallet works site.

But Councillor Buckley declared: “We remain convinced Uppermill is the best location on both cost, operational and technical grounds. The EFA wasn’t able to explain how it arrived at its recommendation. We will be scrutinising the findings very carefully, supported by our technical advisers. The people of Saddleworth want the school to remain in Uppermill and our campaign will continue. Achieving planning consent for Diggle will be neither speedy nor straightforward.”
