Post office cards delivering chaos

Date published: 28 January 2015

A batch of delivery collection cards is causing headaches at Uppermill post office.

The information cards are pushed through letterboxes by post workers when a delivery can’t be made.

The cards tell customers where their parcel can be collected.

For most Oldham adresses the collection point is at the Hamilton Street sorting office, but a batch of the cards preprinted with the Uppermill Post Office address have wrongly been dropped at homes across the borough. Customers have turned up there only to be redirected to Oldham.

Uppermill sub-postmaster Graham Sheldon said: “I’ve informed Royal Mail at Oldham more than 20 times since November. On Saturday I had another three people trying to collect parcels from here.

“This poor service and incompetence by the management at Royal Mail Oldham needs to be addressed immediately.”

He said more than 100 customers have made an unnecessary journey to Uppermill and are owed an apology: “Some customers have been understanding, but some have been less than pleased,” Mr Sheldon said

A spokesman for Royal Mail offered an apology to affected customers and promised the problem should now be resolved.
