Hunt for armed raiders
Date published: 05 February 2015
Armed raiders robbed a Springhead shop and threatened staff with a 4ft sword, a crowbar and a hammer.
The drama unfolded on the evening of January 30 when three masked men burst into Costcutter in Carr House Road and ordered two employees — a 32-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman — to lie on the floor.
The thugs took personal items before stealing cash from the till and safe, as well as grabbing cigarettes from behind the counter.
The first offender is described as a 5ft 10in black man of skinny build who spoke with a Jamaican accent. He was wearing a black jacket, black jogging bottoms, a balaclava and gloves.
The second man was a 5ft 8in, black and of slim build. He was wearing cream trousers, blue desert boots and a balaclava. The third man had a black jacket with the hood up, and a balaclava.
Detective Constable Mike Hayman said: “This appalling incident has left many people in the local community shocked.
“The two shop workers went through an extremely traumatic experience and were left absolutely terrified.”
