YOUNGSTERS have been given an exclusive insight into the world of work from leading local business figures.

Children from a dozen Oldham primary schools attended a careers fair at Uppermill Civic Hall, meeting over 25 top employers and educational figures.

Organised by Oldham Schools Business and Community Hub and MPloy Solutions, each business and educational body spent time talking to pupils about their roles and sectors, leading exciting, interactive activities to inspire and engage the year fives.

Norma Guest, managing director of MPloy Solutions, said: “We need to help children to believe in themselves and their abilities, raising their aspirations for later life and providing them with a focus throughout their school careers.

“Events such as this ensure pupils can really begin to grasp the different paths available to them and visualise their futures. We are incredibly grateful to all who joined us and helped make the event a success.”

Alison Leigh, head teacher at Delph Primary School, and joint leader of the Business and Community Hub, said: “Our pupils were able to speak to a great cross-section of people, learning about different industries and educational pathways.

“It’s incredibly important to get pupils thinking about the future, particularly before they move on to high school and face important decisions about which subjects to pursue.”

Caroline Ireland, head teacher at St Thomas’ Leesfield Primary School, said: “As joint leader of the Oldham Business and Community Hub, I am passionate about children knowing what is out there and thinking about the skills needed to do what they would like to do in life.”
