A DETERMINED mother-of-four plans to convert a derelict roadside toilet block into a must-visit oasis for travellers of a different kind.

Caroline Metcalfe has set her sights on the graffiti-daubed WC, offered for sale by the council. The block, in Manchester Road, Greenfield, currently stands forlorn and ivy-covered - but by September Caroline, a former Uppermill florist, hopes to welcome her first customerscustomers to a new, stylish cafe.

Caroline (43) believes her new venture will be a magnet for local visitors. “It’s got great potential,” she said. “Everyone is really pleased at the idea. We plan to provide picnics for customers and our team will be briefed on providing helpful pointers on popular walks to help them enjoy they area.”

A former toilet block in Denshaw, which opened as a small general store last month, has trebled its trade.

Delighted owner Fred Linskey said: “We’ve had a terrific response from locals, and passing trade has increased too. Everything is going in the right direction.”
