Country fair

A Yorkshire Day country fair takes place at King George V Playing Fields, Uppermill, on Sunday, from 10am.


It features entertainment, craft stalls, animal petting, a duck race and Uppermill Brass Band will play.


JUDGING of the Saddleworth in Bloom competition will take place next Wednesday. The five categories —large, medium, small, community and container — will be judged by a panel which includes the chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council. Anyone wanting to enter or nominate a garden should call 01457-876665.


RSF Off-road Cycling Club is holding a guided ride around Saddleworth on Tuesday, August 11. Those taking part should meet at Lime Kiln Cafe, at Brownhill Visitors’ Centre, Uppermill, for a 10.30am start.


A MEETING is being held on Monday, August 10, for anyone wanting to join a new residents’ group in Uppermill. The meeting will be held at 7.30pm at the Civic Hall in Uppermill. For further information contact enquiries@saddleworthparishcouncil.org.uk or by calling 01457-876665.



THE “It’s Not Rocket Science” general knowledge quiz is on at Springhead Liberal Club on Tuesday, August 11. Starting at 8.30pm, entry is £3 per person and proceeds go to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and the Oldham branch of the MS Society.



ANYONE aged 50 or over is invited to join Age UK for a scenic stroll every Tuesday afternoon, from 2pm. The dementia- friendly strolls take place in Uppermill, with the group meeting at the side of Warburton Court, just off High Street, and take a short route and finish back at Warburton Court.
