Charity gig

RETIRED musician John Loydon is taking to the stage for one night only in aid of a charity gig in Uppermill on Sunday, May 8. John, who will be joined by Mojo Rising for the event, will perform a selection of blues classics and his own songs at the Hare and Hounds, from 6pm.

The gig is in aid of NMO-SpectrumUK, an organisation supporting those diagnosed with Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO).


UPPERMILL Civic Hall will once again play host to a fine selection of local handmade stalls this year at the Saddleworth Handmade Festival. The spring event is open from May 14-15, from 11am to 4pm. It is free to enter and will be collecting money for the Saddleworth Museum.


SADDLEWORTH Musical Society will be performing Haydn’s “Creation” at Uppermill Civic Hall on Sunday, May 8, from 7.30pm. The group will also welcome guest soloists George Hulbert (bass), Chris Dodd (tenor) and Marie Louise Lane (soprano), to join the choir in singing the piece, accompanied by full orchestra. LOVE Lydgate is to hold a community fundraising evening featuring tribute band The Threetles at The White Hart, Lydgate, on Thursday, April 21 at 8pm. Tickets £10.


GET your thinking caps on for a charity fund raising quiz at the Royal George, Greenfield, on Friday, April 22, at 8pm. The event is to raise money for Bright Futures, Lydgate’s pioneering school which supports young people living with autism. Quiz entry is £1.50 a head, maximum of five to a team.


AN Ascension Day service is to be held on Uppermill museum car park at 8am on Thursday, May 5, followed by tea and toast in Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
