A STUNNING selection of gardens in Saddleworth were open to the public this weekend as part of a fundraising festival.

Filled with an abundance of plants, flowers and wildlife, the gardens at 5 Crib Lane in Dobcross, and Moorland Paddock in Huddersfield Road, Diggle, welcomed in members of the public as part of the National Gardens Festival Weekend.

National charity and event organisers the National Gardens Scheme helps horticulturalists across the country open up their gardens once or twice a year for a small fee which is then donated to charity.

Diggle resident Helen Barnes showed visitors round her garden which houses a wide range of roses, shrubs and herbaceous perennials.

Visitors to the garden of Dobcross resident Helen Campbell not only enjoyed her stony hillside garden but also browsed art in her very own gallery where she displays the creative endeavours of local artists.

Both gardens were open all day for afternoon teas and plant sales.
