Mum’s got it all sewn up

A YOUNG mother who gave up a career with the Crown Prosecution Service to start her own business was a finalist in the Mumpreneur Awards.

Becky Nowell (36), from Lees, runs Maisie Lou Designs, an online personalised embroidery and gift company. The business was launched in 2012 as a way for Becky to stay at home with her young children Harriett (6) and four-year-old Charlotte.

A friend nominated the former solicitor for the awards - a national scheme for mums who run their own enterprise.

Becky’s customers can choose from teddy bears and toys to school bags and swimming towels — all of which can be personalised.

“I have been extremely busy in the last few weeks as children have been going back to school.

One advantage of her service is that pet names can be embroidered on school items that couldn’t otherwise be bought “personalised”.

“I love to call my children Lottie and Nattie, for example - and obviously other parents have favourite names for their children.”

Oldham RLFC has linked up with Becky’s company to market a wide range of club merchandise carrying the club’s badge.
