HASSAN Iqbal (16) has a technology firm called Creative Pixels and also studies at the Peter Jones Academy in Oldham.

He received a £2,200 grant from the Oldham Enterprise Fund which he plans to spend on computer software and equipment, and marketing the business.

Hassan grew up in Rochdale but wanted to study in Oldham after discovering the academy, which he said was the best thing that ever happened to him.

His business covers services including website design and technology, search engine optimisation to boost website profiles, web hosting and mobile telecoms.

He said: “The focus is on enterprise using technology. I help businesses to expand online and increase revenue, and aim to be a one-stop shop. I now have clients in the UK, United States, France, Algeria, Pakistan and India.”

Hassan is taking a two-year enterprise diploma at the Peter Jones Academy, where he came into contact with the Oldham Business Leadership Group.

Through those contacts he has helped the leadership group set up YENO — Youth Enterprise Network Oldham — which helps to highlight the expert advice and financial support available to young people keen to start their own business.

Hassan said Shazia Afzal, business manager at the Peter Jones Academy, had been a great help.

He added: “I’m the first person in my family to start a business. It’s involved a lot of hard work but I’m glad I took the decision. Young people should build on their strengths, whatever they are, and go for it. If you take the help that’s on offer then it’s amazing what can happen.”
