Putting a lid on landfill problems

A TROUBLESHOOTER has been appointed by a giant waste company to handle the visionary development of a controversial landfill site.

John Molyneux (51) is the new area aftercare manager for Veolia Environmental Services, which controls the fortunes of High Moor tip at Scouthead.

The sprawling site, which is 400ft deep, was closed for the delivery of household and commercial waste on New Year’s Eve but Veolia has retained an operating presence on site.

Removal
A Veolia spokesman said: “John has over 27 years’ specialist experience in this area working across our North and Midlands regions. He will be based at High Moor along with his team of aftercare technicians.

“As part of this role, he will have overall responsibility for the continued extraction of gas which results in sufficient electricity being produced for around 4,000 homes.

“The site will continue to be monitored and there will be ongoing removal of leachate and management of surface water created by rainfall.

“We remain completely committed to our overall monitoring and aftercare activities at the site.

“We will continue to work with the Environment Agency which regularly inspects the site and do so during the restoration and aftercare period.”
