FULL of beans . . . Brian in his new Uppermill shop
Buckley’s Yard is a small new “Third Wave” coffee bar in Uppermill — one of only 10 in the UK.
Owner Brian Hockenhull (58), sells almost 40 types of coffee beans, 15 types of flavoured beans and a similar number of traditional teas, fruit and herbal drinks and infusions.
Brian has invested around £15,000 in the new business, which mirrors one in Ashton’s market hall.
“All the products are in jars at the back of my place and I grind the beans to customer requirements,” he said.
The new premises are small, but have an authentic feel, with coffee sacks on the ceiling and sides of tea chests adding to the atmosphere.
There is a coffee roasting machine — “it looks like Stephenson’s Rocket, all black and copper,” says Brian — for roasting demonstrations on Saturdays. He adds: “The aromas are just great, from the raw coffee beans to the aroma of roasting, then grinding and finally brewing. If you like coffee, then this is near to heaven.”
