OLDHAM’S brightest and best young fashionistas have gone to London for three special days of retail work experience.

Part of Mahdlo’s “Get a Job” programme, nine young people set off to the capital yesterday for the event, meeting some of the UK’s leading retailers for advice and tips on how to get ahead.

The event is being headed up by Mahdlo’s Chris Hughes and young fashion entrepreneur Eric Bishyika, who is hoping to learn more about the fast-moving world of catwalks, clothes & merchandising.

Chris said: “The Mahdlo Merchandise Project is a great opportunity for these young people to get experience of developing and running a business.

“The young people will have full control of creating, designing, pricing, marketing and selling a new range of merchandise for Mahdlo Youth Zone. “This all starts with a trip to our capital to see how industry professionals do it.

“This trip and opportunity could not have been possible without the support of charitable donations to Mahdlo”

Eric, who already runs the hugely successful Something Worthy Clothing Company, added: “I’ve been involved with the work that Chris is doing at Mahdlo for a long time and they’ve been kind enough to let me use the offices and meeting rooms to support my business.

“I want other young people to see what a difference getting involved with Mahdlo can make and I’m really excited to be joining them on this trip to London.

“Opportunities like this don’t come along every day and I’m going to make the most of it.”

The trip has been fully funded by Mahdlo Youth Zone.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to Mahdlo or support the “Get A Job” programme should contact Chris Hughes on 0161-624 0111.
