Dragons’ Den challenge for traders
Date published: 10 October 2014
INDEPENDENT traders are showcasing their flair as part of an ambitious plan to boost business in Lees and Shaw.
Oldham Council’s Cabinet has approved plans to invest £100,000 in Building Improvement Grants in each district in July.
Businesses can apply for 50 per cent of the cost — up to £3,000 — to improve their premises, bring a building back into use or install new signage. Priority will be given to applications proposing “clear visual improvements”, and which have a sustainable business plan and where the changes are likely to lead to long-term growth.
In Lees a number of businesses have already expressed interest and council officers are helping them with bid applications.
In Shaw leaflets are being delivered to local businesses giving them more details about the scheme.
The £100,000 being invested in Shaw is in addition to up to £120,000 earmarked for Shaw Market.
