RL star urges bosses to set the pace of a healthy lifestyle

HEALTHY lifestyles in the workplace was the theme of a breakfast seminar hosted by the Oldham Business Leadership Group and opened by former Great Britain rugby league captain Kevin Sinfield.

More than 50 delegates attended the event to hear Oldhamer Kevin, who captains Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, ask Oldham’s business leaders to set an example by being more active and adopting a nutritional diet.

“Little steps is all I’m asking,” he said, adding: “I don’t expect you all to go out and run a marathon, but setting a good example - for instance using the steps at work and not the lifts - can make a huge difference.

“I am lucky to work in an environment where being fit is a requirement. But we also have fun and I believe in the 80-20 rule: 80 per cent of the time I eat all the right foods, and the rest I can indulge.”

He was part of a presentation which included Scott Davis, who is leading the Oldham Active Workforce Pilot, and Anthony Pauls, from Oldham Community Leisure, who are partnering OBLG is the programme.

There are a number of initiatives in and around the programme said John Townsend, from the business leadership group which is prepared to fund up to 20 people — a maximum of five from any business or organisation — which enrols on the scheme.

Business leaders and employers wanting more information can contact OBLG co-ordinator Graham McKendrick on 07515188974 for direction.
