TELEVISION star Jon Culshaw is to host this year’s One Oldham Business Awards in May.

The impressionist has been a target of the awards steering group for some time.

The 47 year old’s signing for the Queen Elizabeth Hall event on May 15 is “a real coup” by chairman Steve Kilroy.

Steve said: “This will lift the awards to a new level. We’ve had ambitions for some years to make a statement about the awards to the rest of Greater Manchester and we are now in a position to get someone of the stature of Jon Culshaw.

Culshaw’s career began in hospital radio in Ormskirk - his home town, despite Wikipedia’s previous assertion that he’s from Oldham. He was catapulted to prominence by satirical TV show “Spitting Image”, in which he voiced around 40 characters including then-Prime Minister John Major.

Culshaw famously impersonated William Hague and got through to bemused Prime Minister Tony Blair at Number 10 Downing Street while working with Steve Penk rose on Capital Radio.
