THE autumn edition of the new Oldham Business Edge magazine is out now and available free to subscribers.

This is the second edition of the new quarterly A4 magazine published by the Evening Chronicle and aimed at businesses and professionals across the borough and beyond.

Skills, training, work placements and career development opportunities across a range of Oldham employers are highlighted in this edition.

One feature looks at Derker-based Innovative Technology's paid work placements for youngsters.

More than 20 recently completed individually designed placements across a range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) roles with the Oldham-based firm which has customers across the world.

Innovative Technology designs and makes high-tech cash-validation equipment used by banks, supermarkets, arcade and games machines, car parks, ticketing, kiosk and vending equipment across the world.

Those on its work placements include school-leavers looking for apprenticeships, sixth formers and university graduates.

Another employer highlighting its career opportunities is First Choice Homes, and there are interviews with staff ranging from a trainee accountant to an apprentice facilities management and a volunteer co-ordinator.

Despite being a large organisation with a £55 million turnover, First Choice Homes is keen to highlight its links with local suppliers of all sizes and sectors, and the magazine looks at one of the housing organisation's small suppliers which is taking on new staff.

In another magazine feature, Oldham College explains its work with supporting the recruitment and training needs of employers.

The college has a team of specialist staff which works closely with firms to find recruits, including apprentices and trainees, or to boost the skills and qualifications of existing staff.

Property experts from Ryder & Dutton lead a discussion about the availability and quality of industrial and commercial land and units in Oldham, and outline the opportunities and competition the area faces from neighbouring boroughs and speaks to a manufacturing client about its property needs.

Elsewhere Oldham Community Leisure talks about its work and career opportunities in outdoor adventure and sports events to promote health, leisure and tourism across the borough. Activities include climbing, cycling and the Milltown to Moors series of runs which are becoming increasingly popular regionally and nationally. Business sponsors speak about the benefits of supporting Oldham's outdoor events.

There are also features on Oldham Business Award winners Precision Pallets and Cases, shoemaker Charlotte Mills, Brookdale Golf Club in Failsworth, Saddleworth arts and crafts, and brewers JW Lees.

And there's a full round-up of all the latest news and successes from Oldham's business community including appointments, awards and events.
