Brick hurled at candidate’s window

Date published: 06 May 2010

ELECTION 2010

Police are investigating criminal damage at the offices of a Labour candidate for tonight’s local elections.

Aqeel Ali Salamat was parking his car at the office in Waterloo Street, Glodwick, when supporters saw a man hurl a brick at the window on Tuesday night around 7pm.

He said: “They told me he was masked or had something over his face, and six or seven people were standing around the office when the tall lad ran past, and threw a brick, then ran off down an alley by St Mark’s Church. Fortunately it has shatter-proof glass.”

He said eggs had been thrown at supporters’ windows displaying his poster, and earlier in the week a crowd of men had tried to intimidate him in his office, asking why he was supporting Phil Woolas — the Oldham East and Labour candidate for the general election.

Police confirmed they were investigating reports of criminal damage.

Police have confirmed they are investigating this one, even though no actual damage was caused? Mr Salamat has not been threatened with arrest or a fixed penalty then?

Police are investigating.....This is great news!.....Perhaps they will also pay Jane Howarth a visit. Apologise to her and investigate all the attacks on her home too?!.....Or maybe she's just unfortunate to have the wrong postcode!
