Losing control!

Date published: 07 May 2010

Local voters were in tune with the nation as they delivered a hung council in Oldham.

"That's just the way the cookie crumbles," declared Lib Dem leader Howard Sykes as he saw his party's overall control of Oldham Council disappear with the loss of three seats.

The five-seat Tories and the council's only Independent, Ian Barker, may now hold the balance of power, with the Lib Dems and Labour both on 27 seats . . .

how come the first comment out of sykes mouth had something to do with food? does this man have it on the brain?
oh well! that less biscuits for you in future council meetings!

im glad the lib dems have lost overall control. with them at the helm oldham has decended shambles to a complete mess.

i just hope we see al£ock, parker, sykes and others standing down. if they where doing real jobs they'd have been sacked a long time ago!

LD = 27 Seats.
Lab= 27 Seats.
Con= 5 Seats.
Ind= 1 Seats.

Prehaps now these elected persons, will look at Oldham and start to Do What Needs to be Done to Bring Oldham Back UP.

No more snipping/backbiting and such like. Work together and deliver what needs to be delivered.

Or Hold another Election, with the required Canidate actaully getting and meeting people AT HOME!

even by cllr sykes standards , that is a pathetic comment ,has he ever said anything meaningful?

'fedupoldhamer'- I am probably as fed up as you are about the whole situation in Oldham, however I would like to point out that Charlie Parker is not a councillor he is an employee, and as such he has a 'real job'
Although I agree with you that he should have been sacked a long time ago.

So a minority government then.This means different parties pulling in diferent directions for there own ends and no clear direction for Oldham as a town.The shambles will continue.Im happy not to live there any more.

It will be interesting to see what the Tories ask for their support from whichever party. Will it be based on policies or on their own personal ambitions?

'Mrs C' - Charlie Parker's been in the job for just over a year hasn't he?

So, when you say he should have been sacked 'long ago' which month in particular are you talking about?

I would expect that any real Lib Dem supporters would not be too happy sharing the same trough as the Tories but if it gives Nick a bit of power no doubt he'll do a deal - unless, of course, he is more genuine than his media appearances led some to believe. Most Lib Dem supporters can't abide the Tories so why think of a deal at all?

This is posted before any decisions have been reached (Sunday - 4.45am UK time).

Sapere Aude, as the saying goes, 'a week is a long time in politics' so as far as Charlie is concerned, take your pick!

Can the Lib Dems please take their 'winning here' posters down, or at least replace them with 'Liberal Democrats - Lost Here' posters.

Thank you!
