FORGET the moves like Jagger, the Rolling Stones star probably stole his steps from this 92-year-old great grandfather from Oldham.

D-Day veteran Ernie Mayall has no time for a sedate waltz or nostalgic tunes from his youth, for his venue of choice is the Liquid and Envy in Oldham town centre.

Ernie regularly joins clubbers a fraction of his age at the Retiro Street club to show his moves on the dance floor until the early hours.

It is today's chart hits and club anthems which float the boat of former Able Seaman Mayall, a popular visitor who is well known to staff and customers.

So it was fitting that the club was chosen to host a special party with 300 guests to celebrate his life.

Ernie was picked up from his home in Waterhead in a limousine and given a surprise guard of honour by comrades from the Royal Naval Association.

His son Ian Mayall said: "Ernie was really emotional. The club was packed and it showed how much people think of him.

"Everyone says he is a legend. Nightclubbing at his age is unusual but he doesn't do anything that old people do.

"Last year and the year before he went to Benidorm for the fiesta.

"He loves dancing and the club always makes him welcome, letting him in free of charge and everyone looks after him."

Ernie has eight children, 26 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.

Liquid's general manager Terry Bruce said: "Ernie has been coming in every other Saturday for about three years now, either with members of his family or on his own.

"He knows everyone in the club and everyone knows him. You cannot get him off the dance floor.

"We're always happy to see him."
