A MAN was taken to hospital after he was trapped underneath a digger in Uppermill yesterday morning.

The 60-year-old man was injured in a work's accident in Primrose Avenue.

Police were called to the incident at around 11.30am and temporarily closed the road for cleaning.

A GMP spokeswoman said: "The man had somehow become trapped under the digger.

"We do not think his injuries are life threatening but he was taken to hospital.

"There was diesel coming from the digger. The council were there by 2.40pm for a clean-up operation and were sorting out the diesel."

A post on GMP Saddleworth and Lees Facebook site yesterday said: "Due to a fuel spill, Primrose Avenue is temporarily closed for cleaning."
