Rubbish has still not been removed

COMPLAINTS over piles of fly-tipped rubbish have fallen on deaf ears at Oldham Council, residents have claimed.

Dozens of bags of household waste as well as mattresses, toys, old shoes and wooden pallets have been dumped in Glodwick since last month.

Ignored

But a Mansfield Road resident said a whole month's worth of complaints had been ignored by officials who "don't seem bothered."

Oldham Council said they are looking into the fly-tipping complaints and asked residents to report the problem.

The 34-year-old said: "It is an absolute mess.

"People are dumping black bags full.

"I have a young family and we are getting mice in our house because of the rubbish.

"It has been a full month and it has still not been removed.

"We are getting more people coming to dump new rubbish every day.

"My neighbour has also called and emailed about the problem and hasn't heard back.

"It is like the council aren't bothered."

Pile

Children's toys, mop buckets, and cardboard boxes litter the alleyway which links Mansfield Road with Kingsbridge Road.

But the concerned resident said as soon as rubbish is removed from one location it appears in another. The resident, who does not want to be named, took pictures of around eight black bags of rubbish which were dumped at the site early last week.

He said: "If I see someone dumping it I ask them to move it but then it turns up somewhere else.

"Someone brought a mattress out of his house and dumped it on top of the pile. It's a joke.

Solution

"Every time I call the council I'm told someone will ring me back but no-one calls.

"I have phoned them four or five times since.

"All they keep saying is they can't put me through to an officer.

"No-one can be bothered to call me back and they're not finding a solution."

However, the resident praised a 90-year-old man who he sees clearing up the rubbish on a regular basis.

He said: "He comes out with a litter picker and black bag and picks up rubbish from the streets.

"Whether it is rain or snow he comes out to pick up litter.

"But he could carry on for the rest of his life at this rate."

Prosecute

An Oldham Council spokesman said: "The council is looking into this matter and if we find evidence we will prosecute."
