GREENFIELD Brass Band will show off their talents when they battle other bands to show they have the brass factor.

The Greenfield band will be one of six to entertain audiences as part of a brass band talent show, Brass Factor, on November 12 and 19 at The Engine Shed, Wetherby and the Picturedrome, Holmfirth.

Established in 2010, the award-winning event is a celebration of one of Britain's most traditional forms of entertainment and takes on a talent-show style format where contestants will try to impress a panel of celebrity judges - soon to be confirmed - with 18 to 20 minute sets.

But Brass Factor adds a twist to the judging process by also allowing audiences the opportunity to vote for their favourites.

Although a more unusual judging format than normal, Greenfield Brass Band remain unfazed.

Andy Clayton, Greenfield Brass Band secretary, said: "We're used to it really, we like playing in front of people and it should be good fun.

"It is a busy time at the moment, we have the remembrance weekend and the build up to Christmas, as well as this."

He said: "We have got a great team here. We have had the same team more or less for the past few years.

"We got offered the chance to play in Brass Factor and you always want to play because there is no use going to practice twice a week if you don't have a venue to play."

Created by Alex Bray, a cornet player since the age of 11, Brass Factor aims to raise public awareness and nurture young talent. Since its inception it has also raised £15,000 in support of charities.

This year will see funds raised in aid of The Town Foundation and Martin House Children's Hospice.

Alex Bray said: "I am incredibly excited for Brass Factor this year and plans are in place for it to be just as fantastic as previous years. The support we have gained since 2010 has been phenomenal and if some of this can be transferred into promoting brass band culture and young talent, then the event has fulfilled its objectives."
