WALSALL 1, ATHLETIC 3
LEE Croft, Cameron Burgess and Lee Erwin were the scorers as Athletic landed a date at Mansfield in the Checkatrade Trophy thanks to a second-half turnaround.
Amadou Bakayoko's fierce 25-yard shot had opened the scoring for the hosts just before half-time, after Ryan McLaughlin had forced a brilliant save from Craig MacGillivray with an effort the goalkeeper tipped onto the crossbar.
But manager Stephen Robinson's side, who had plenty of possession, levelled through half-time substitute Lee Croft's low, angled drive in the 69th minute.
And four minutes later they had the lead, as Ollie Banks's measured cross was flicked in by the head of Burgess via the underside of the bar for his second goal in as many outings.
Erwin rounded things off with a very well-taken effort, accepting a pass from Ousmane Fane and cutting in on his left foot before placing the ball beyond MacGillivray in the 89th minute.
